Nishat Awan
Awan gives an overview of recent work that attempts to trace the movement of undocumented migrants across international borders. It explores the ways in which such movement has been conceptualised, for example through describing truncated journeys, clandestine routes, and migrant trajectories understood as phases of movement and stasis. It then discusses the methodologies used to research and analyse this movement, with a particular emphasis on visual and participatory methods, including the role of digital technologies. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the politics and ethics of making visible what are clandestine journeys.
